Raised in Virginia, he graduated from the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in civil engineering and then continued on to earn an M.B.A. from Averett University in Danville, Virginia. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy for four years and retired after 16 years in the Naval Reserves, at the rank of commander.

While in the Reserves, Mr. Berkhimer also led an active professional life. Over the course of his career, he has held various leadership, management and engineering positions in both the public and private sectors. The diversity of his experience provides him with a unique perspective in helping others resolve the issues they face today.

On a more personal note — Kirk D. Berkhimer has experienced the hardship of military deployments, the ache of divorce, and the tragedy of losing a child. He understands the personal struggles that often accompany everyday life.
